AVERY, DELIA B. (ARMSTRONG), died July 15, 1964.
She was born in Gorham on October 31, 1887, the daughter of Joseph and
Hannah (Devine) Armstrong. She married Ezra Walter Avery on her birthday, on October 31,
1907 at the Avery homestead. He was the son of Amasa Walker Avery and Sarah Ida
Sawyer. He died January 30, 1965.
Three sons and two daughters blessed their marriage; Amasa Avery, Joseph Avery,
Eustace Avery, Mrs. Pauline Franusiak and Mrs. Alberta Mc Cann.
BATCHELDER, ELLEN, died October 11, 1964.
She was born in Scotland on July 13, 1898 and was the wife of Lyman
Batchelder and the mother of one son, Judge William Batchelder.
BOYCE, ERNEST JOHN, was born 2/16/1900 and died
11/28/1964. He was a Private in
Company C, 323 Engineers Battalion in World War II.
BROWN, ANNA (BEAN), wife of Elmer Brown, died June 16,
1964. She was born December 16,
1885. Her husband died in May of
1963.
CALDON, JOHN W., age 44, died August 6, 1964.
He was born in Plymouth, the son of Lee S. and Gladys Caldon.
He had two brothers, Clifton and Robert..
CHASE, ROBERT M., died August 9, 1964.
He was born in Plymouth on June 28, 1896, the son of Edward Averill and
Ruth (McClure) Chase. He married Lillian Clark of Plymouth in the town of Warren in
1919 and they had two sons, Edward C. Chase and Robert M. Chase, Jr.
Robert’s father once owned the Plymouth Record newspaper and sold it in
1918 to Richard J. McLean. He also
owned the Chase Grain Company until 1926.
COLBURN, CARL A., died May 4, 1964.
He was born in Rumney October 10, 1899 to Fred and Katherine (Gallagher)
Colburn. He came to Plymouth in
1919 and was employed at the D & M factory for years.
He was later employed by the O.A. Miller Company until his retirement.
He was married to the former Marion Merrill.
CONWAY, ANDREW J., died in August of 1964.
He was born in Concord on November 22, 1905, the son of James and
Elizabeth (Jardine) Conway. He lived in Plymouth for 55 years and was called “Ikey”
by his friends. He worked for the B
& M railroad and was married to Natalie (Sullivan) Conway.
They had four sons and a daughter; Andrew E., Dennis, Ronald, and
Russell, and Mrs. Patricia Neads.
FOSTER, CHRISTABEL A., widow of George R. Foster, died
August 19, 1964. She was born in
Littleton in 1879 and graduated from the Plymouth Normal School in 1903.
In the spring of 1905 she married George Rice Foster, who with his
brother, Edwin J. Foster, operated the Kearsarge Peg Company in Plymouth and in
Bartlett. She was known as “Aunt
Chris,” to the young folks who knew her.
They had one son, G. Allen Foster. Burial
was in Riverside Cemetery.
MC CARTHY, FELIX JR., died January 18, 1964.
He was born in County Cork, Ireland October 9, 1891, son of Felix and
Honora (Bradley) McCarthy. He came to Plymouth when he was about two years old.
He married Mary MacDonald of Lowell, Massachusetts in November of 1916.
They moved to Campton in 1932 and operated a tourist cottage colony at
their farm home, Starr King View. He
was employed by the State of New Hampshire for 34 years as cashier at the Flume
Reservation in Franconia Notch. He
was a veteran of World War I.
MC CUTCHEON, MARGARET (MOORE), widow of Edward Mc
Cutcheon, died June 26, 1964. She
was born in New Brunswick on October 31, 1880, the daughter of Abraham and
Katharine (Johnson) Moore. Edward
died in 1950. There was one
daughter, Greta A. Noseworthy.
MORRISON, CARL S., died May 2, 1864.
He was born in Plymouth August 26, 1889 to Mortimer A. Morrison and
Lizzie A. Sargent. He was a World
War I veteran and was married to the former Helen Wood.
PEASE, HARL, died September 30, 1964 at his home on
Russell Street. He was born in
Ashland on November 17, 1878, the son of Benjamin Franklin and Mary (Batchelder)
Pease. On December 31, 1912 he
married Bessie Fox, daughter of Plummer Fox.
They had two children, Harl Pease, Jr., and Charlotte Pease.
Harl Pease was an automobile dealer in Plymouth.
ROBERTS, CELIA M. (KIDDER), died January 3, 1964.
She was born in Groton January 12, 1885 to Mark B. Kidder and Louisa
Staples. She married Fred W.
Roberts in 1909. He died in 1938.
At one time they owned the 1820 house on Highland Street which was
purchased by Miss Ivanetta Morrison in 1938.
SHANAHAN, AGNES (CONDON), age 82, died July 23, 1964.
She was born in Plymouth on February 19, 1882, the daughter of Maurice
and Catherine Elizabeth “Kate” (MacDonald) Condon.
She was married to Edmund Shanahan who was a Plymouth mail carrier. He preceded her in death.
She is buried in Riverside Cemetery.
Agnes and Ed had three sons, Edmund M., George F., and Dr. Arthur F.
WEBSTER, ELLEN AMELIA, daughter of David Moor Webster
and Ellen Amanda Sawyer, died at the age of 101 in 1964. She was a former schoolteacher.
WHITE, ANNIE E., age 93, died August 10, 1964.
She was born in Dover on May 14, 1871 and was the widow of Daniel White.
Annie had three sons from a previous marriage; Urban Evans, Clayton
Evans, and Charles Evans. She had
one daughter, Mrs. Bessie Mitchell.

He was born August 17, 1911 to Charles Henry and Lillian (Joyce) Ellison.
MAYNARD, JOHN EDWARD, died on July 9, 1965.
NOYES, HERBERT WILLIAM, died on March 5, 1965.
He was born July 23, 1885 and married Frances Ryan in 1911.
She died in 1962.
SPENCER, MABEL ALMIRA (MC QUESTEN), age 91, died
February 8, 1965. She was the widow
of Louis Spencer, who died in 1943. She
was the daughter of Charles Oliver McQuesten and his second wife, Almira (Corliss)
Sawyer, the widow of Richard K. Sawyer. Mabel
and Louis were married in 1895 and were the parents of six children.
TRAVER, ANGELINE M. (GLIDDEN), died December 24, 1965.
Angie was born in Tuftonboro March 5, 1898 to John and Myrtle (Stillings)
Glidden. She was a retired innkeeper who operated “Roselawn” in
Plymouth for many years. She
married Fred W. Travers and was previously married to someone named Chabot.
Two sons by the first marriage.

ALLEN, AMY ESTELLA (WELLS), age 100, died March 9, 1966.
She was born September 16, 1965 to Henry and Mary (Spear) Wells and she
was the widow of Benjamin Allen. Survivors
include a son from a former marriage, Hubert Duncklee, a daughter, Mrs. Bessie
Sorrell, and a stepson, Ivers Allen. Burial
was in Riverside Cemetery.
AVERY, GEORGIA J. (HALL), age 74, died March 10, 1966.
She was born in Rumney December 20, 1891 to George and Minnie (Emerson)
Hall. She was married to William H.
Avery of Concord and they had a son, Donald W. Avery.
HARVEY, ARMSTRONG BALCH, who lived at 160 Highland
Street and was a former Plymouth Fire Chief, died October 4, 1966.
He was known to his friends as “Army,” and he was born in Holderness
on April 11, 1902, the son of Charles A. and Laura (Connor) Harvey.
He was employed at the D & M for a time and was the original
proprietor of the Tydol Service Station. He
was later employed at Scott & Williams Company factory in Laconia and also
at Deming Chevrolet. He married
Esther Turner in Plymouth on January 1, 1921.
In 1959 they purchased the Elmer Clay home on Ward Hill and they operated
an antique shop there. There is a
daughter, Mrs. Jeanette Keeney of Plymouth
BAYLEY, BLANCHE (AVERY), died January 3, 1966.
She was born in Campton September 17, 1880 to Frank and Addie (Batchelder)
Avery. She married Herbert E.
Bayley of Plymouth who died in 1957. Two
daughters, Miss Gladys S. Bayley of Plymouth and Mrs. Helen Kidder of Jaffrey.
BOZARTH, RUTH, died January 8, 1966.
She was born in Illinois July 7, 1893 to George S. and Belle (Downs)
Bozarth. She came to Plymouth in
1927 and taught geography at the Plymouth Normal School for 31 years.
CONOD, ISABEL (TURNER), sister of Esther Harvey, died on
December 26, 1966. She was the
widow of Frank Conod. Born in
Sandwich on October 21, 1893, the daughter of Cornelius and Bertha (Canney)
Turner, she came to Plymouth in 1914 and worked at the D & M factory on Main
Street. She married Frank Conod in
1929 and they lived for over 30 years in New Jersey. Frank died in 1953. Survivors
include one sister, Mrs. Elva Mc Fee of Plymouth.
CURRIER, ERNEST E., died
October 10, 1966. He was born in
Plymouth, the son of Ernest E. and Alice (Bowlen) Currier, Sr.
He was a World War II veteran. He
was married to Lillian Dickson and he was the brother of Preston B. Currier.
GILMAN, FRANK ALVIN, died
March 26, 1966. He was born in
Plymouth October 2, 1920 to Leonard George and Blanch (Pratt) Gilman.
He worked as a postal clerk from March 1944 and was a World War II
veteran. He was married to Alice
Gibson and had two sons, George and Richard, as well as a daughter, Shirley
Gilman. He is also survived by
his mother, Mrs. Blanche Mackay of West Plymouth, one brother, George Gilman,
and one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Watts.
GRIFFIN, HARRY E., died July
8, 1966. He was born in Johnville,
P.Q., May 27, 1885 to Charles F. and Jane (Levett) Griffin.
He came to Plymouth in 1914 and lived on Gould Terrace with his wife,
Blanch Austin, beginning in 1920. He
was employed on the B & M railroad for 52 years.
GUSTAFSON, INGEBORG, died in
Plymouth on June 8, 1966. “Ingie”
was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 30, 1912.
She was the daughter of Swan and Sophia Gustafson and she came to
Plymouth in 1958 with the Dr. Hurme family, where she made her home.
She was a very active member of the Plymouth Methodist Church.
She was buried in Trinity Cemetery in the Hurme family plot.
HARVEY, ESTHER (TURNER), widow of Armstrong Balch Harvey
died suddenly on November 27, 1966 at her home. She was born in Sandwich on September 28, 1901, the daughter
of Cornelius and Bertha (Canney) Turner. She
and “Army” were married on January 1, 1921.
KIDDER, FRANK R., died April 14, 1966.
He was born in Groton April 24, 1879 to Mark Baker and Louisa Linda
(Staples) Kidder. For many years he
drove the old stagecoach between Groton and Bristol.
He married Lizzie Mae Morse on August 2, 1902.
She died in California July 5, 1954.
MILES, LINNIE HARRIET (GILMAN), died April 24, 1966.
She was born in thornton November 14, 1891 to George W. and Hattie
(Bickford) Gilman. She married
Ralph A. Miles who died in 1954. She worked for years at the D & M factory on Main Street
and later helped manage her husband’s hardware store.
PALMER, LUCILLE (DUNKLEE), wife of Russell Wilson
Palmer, died March 19, 1966. “Cille”
was born January 14, 1915 in West Campton to Seth Eugene and Lucy (Dennison)
Dunklee. She married Russell Palmer
on November 20, 1937 and they operated the “Stag and Hounds Cottage,” later
“Da-We-Hi Farm,” where they made their home.
A son, E. Christopher Palmer was born in 1941, and a daughter, Katherine
Leslie in 1942. Burial was at Blair
Cemetery.
PEPPARD, JOHN T., age 75, died February 21, 1966.
He was born in Plymouth October 3, 1890 to William and Alice (Tufts)
Peppard. He was an alumnus of
Phillips-Exeter Academy and Dartmouth College, class of 1914.
He was a veteran of World War I. He
worked for the D & M from 1914 until 1930, with the exception of the war
years. In 1930 he went into the sporting goods business for himself
in Massachusetts until 1948. He was
married to Mildred Barker Collins of Dorchester, Massachusetts.
She died in 1953. They had a son, J. William Peppard, and two daughters, Mrs.
Susan Hall and Mrs. Alice B. Carroll.
SMITH, ROSE (HEATH), died June 26, 1966.
She was born in Holderness June 19, 1877 to Frank Pike and Rhoda (Ford)
Heath. She was an accomplished horsewoman.
She was the mother of Mrs. Laura H. MacNeil, Royal F. Smith, Woodrow L.
Smith, Mrs. Rose L. Fithen, and Mrs. Desmond Smith.
SPAULDING, CHRISTINE (EASTMAN), the widow of Guy
Spaulding, died January 28, 1966. She
was born October 23, 1893 in Warren to Arthur Edward Eastman and Nellie Delphine
Eastman. Her father was a railroad
conductor and her mother was an artist. Her parents died when she was a small child and she came to
Plymouth to make a home with her aunt, Mrs. Kate Smith, a Plymouth school
teacher. Christine married Guy
Spaulding January 10, 1917 and they made their home at 19 Russell Street.
He died in 1961.
SPENCER, CHARLES, age 52, died March 1, 1966 from
injuries suffered in a fall from a utility pole. He was foreman lineman for the REA. He was born in Plymouth in May of 1913, son of Louis and
Mabel (McQuesten) Spencer. He was
married to Elaine Hawkins. They had
four sons, Wayne, Dean, Jerry, and Adrien.
There were two daughters as well, Janet and Gail.
Charles had five brothers; Arnold, Harry, Leon, George, and Archie.
His sisters are Mrs. Zanita Collins and Mrs. Lillian Baker.
ST. CYR, AGNES (BROWN), died in March of 1966.
She was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on April 18, 1897 to Andrew and Ellen
(Armstrong) Brown. She arrived in Plymouth in 1929 and was married to Joseph E.
St. Cyr. Two sons, Andrew of
Holderness and Clauvis of Plymouth. One
daughter, Mrs. Mildred Haines.
WILKIE, DORIS ANN (SNYDER), age 21, married only six
weeks to W. Jason Wilkie, died March 26, 1966.
She was born in Somerville, New Jersey December 8, 1944 to J. Howard and
Lillian (Newell) Snyder.
WILKINS, HAROLD E., age 73, known as “Tige” was the
publisher of the Plymouth Record and the Ashland Citizen. He died April 4, 1966. He
was born in Whitefield July 27, 1892 to Joseph Frederick and Susie Mae (Haley)
Wilkins. The family moved to
Plymouth in 1909. He worked for
Fred W. Brown at the drug store and also in the Coffey Drug Store. In 1917 he enlisted in the U.S. Army Medics Corps attached to
the 55th Field Artillery, C.A.C. and served overseas during World War
I. He suffered from crippling
arthritis. Tige was a bachelor who
is survived by three sisters; Mrs. Grace Houghton, Mrs. Doris Wherland, and Miss
Pearl Wilkins.
WILLOUGHBY, GRACE MARION (BATTLES), died August 26,
1966. She was the widow of Frank P.
Willoughby. Born in Leominster,
Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Aurilla (Borey) Battles.
She was born on February 6, 1890. She
and Frank were married on November 27, 1917 and lived at 74 Highland Street in
Plymouth. Frank died on June 4,
1963.

DAY, JAMES FREEMAN, died May 20, 1967.
He was born in Haverhill on September 11, 1878, the son of Charles and
Esther (Hartwell) Day. He married Eunice Pierce on October 15, 1902.
After coming to Plymouth he was employed at the D & M factory until
it went out of business in 1937. He
later worked for the O.A. Miller Company until his retirement in 1954.
Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.
DURGIN, GLADYS JEANETTE (DINSMORE), wife of Paul S.
Durgin, died January 27, 1967. She
was born in Hudson on August 7, 1893, the daughter of Frank and Jeanette
(Douglas) Dinsmore. Her family
moved to Plymouth in 1900. She
married Paul Durgin on April 28, 1917.
EASTMAN, CHARLES HAROLD, of 12 Hawthorne Street, died
May 25, 1967. He was born in
Holderness on March 31, 1888, the son of Charles A. and Laura Ellen (Perkins)
Eastman. He married Grace Huckins
of Ashland on March 1, 1913. Charles
was employed by the telephone company for 43 years and retired in 1953.
FOSIE, EMMA MARCIA (CAYES), died January 6, 1967.
She was the mother of 10 children and grandmother of 48.
She is buried in Riverside Cemetery.
She was born in West Plymouth on September 28, 1877, the daughter of
Nathaniel and Marcia (Elkins) Cayes. She
married Alfred Fosie on March 21, 1896. He
worked for the railroad and died in 1941. She
enjoyed outdoor life as well as homemaking, and in her younger years was well
known for her outdoor activities such as hunting for game in the woods.
HOMER, HELEN M. (PAINE), age 62, died May 21, 1967.
She is buried in Riverside Cemetery.
Helen was born in New York City on June 20, 1905, the daughter of Allen
J. and Elizabeth (Mealy) Paine. She
lived on Cape Cod until 1926 when she came to Plymouth.
On November 9, 1929 she married Russell S. Homer and they made their home
on Merrill Street.
MAYHEW, MICHAEL J., age 18, drowned April 14, 1967.
He was a senior at Plymouth High. Michael
was born on May 18, 1949, the son of Clifford H. and Adele (Gammons) Mayhew.
MERRILL, GRACE J. (HORNE), wife of Leonard (“Pete”)
Merrill, died March 7, 1967 and is buried in Trinity Cemetery.
She was born in Somerville, Massachusetts on March 1, 1894, the daughter
of John and Nellie (Ryan) Horne. She
married “Pete” on February 12, 1911. They
celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1961.
They met when both were employed at the Plymouth Normal School and they
lived on Ward Hill since 1935. Two
sons, Clayton Merrill and John Irving Merrill.
Two daughters live out of state.
SARGENT, LESLIE B., died at his home at Livermore Falls
on March 9, 1967. He was born in
Holderness on August 21, 1893, the son of Charles A. and Alma (Evans) Sargent.
He worked for the White Mountain Telephone Company until it merged with
New England Telephone Company. He
retired in 1958 after 48 years of employment.
He was married to Romilla (Campbell) and had one son, Leslie, Jr.
SAWYER, ROSE V., age 78, died May 29, 1967.
She was born in Framingham, Massachusetts and lived in Woodstock, New
Hampshire for 44 years. She served as Postmistress for 26 years and Town Clerk for
several years. During World War I
she was employed by the War Department. She
was the mother of one son, Attorney Leonard Sawyer of Plymouth.
