1840 TO 1849 OBITUARIES

 

(1840)

 

FROST, CHRISTIANA, daughter of Thomas and Louisa Frost, died 2/29/1840.  She was two years and three months old.

 

ROBIE, MARY, the daughter of Jeremiah S. Robie and Mary Green, died on 6/18/1840 at the age of two months.  She was the second of three children born to the couple.

 

(1841)

 

CASS, DOROTHY (DYER), the wife of Chandler Cass, died 12/15/1841.  She was 80 years old. 

 

 

HEATH, ELIZABETH (LADD), the widow of Starling Heath, died at age 76 on 9/4/1841.  She was from Alexandria and was the mother of three.

 

(1842)

 

BLAKE, WILLIAM, died 6/10/1842.  He was born in Andover in 1775, the son of William.  He married Hannah Permoit in 1796.  His second wife was Nancy, whom he married 11/12/1812.  He arrived in Plymouth in 1828.  He had seven children by his first marriage and eight more with Nancy Gove.  He is buried in the Lower Intervale Cemetery.

 

BLODGETT, MARGARET (DAVIS), the wife of Abel Blodgett died 9/17/1842.  She was 73 years old. She was born in 1769 and her father’s surname was McKnight.  When her mother married her second husband, Margaret assumed the name of her stepfather. Margaret was the mother of 11 children.

 

COLLINS, GEORGE W., died at the age of four years on 6/26/1842.  He was the son of John and Hannah Collins.  He is buried in the Turnpike Cemetery.

 

COLLINS, A.J., another son of John and Hannah Collins, died 6/27/1842.  He was only two and a half years old.  He is buried with his brother in the Turnpike Cemetery.

 

FRENCH, SAMUEL, DIED AT AGE 69 ON 3/7/1842.  He was born in Kingston, the son of Lieut. Joseph French.  He lived for many years in Salisbury.  He was married twice, first to Hannah Selleu, who died in 1804 and secondly to Mrs. Abigail Wiggin.

 

PIERCE, DOROTHY (BARNARD), the wife of William Pierce and the daughter of Currier Barnard and Tamzin Jones, died in 1842.  She and her husband were the parents of five children.

 

(1843)

 

BLAKE, NANCY (GOVE), second wife of William Blake and the mother of eight children by him.  She was the daughter of Ebenezer and Susannah (Swain) Gove of Sanbornton.  She died 10/24/1843.

 

(1844)

 

BLANCHARD, DALTON, the son of Simeon Blanchard and the grandson of Peter Dolever Blanchard, died in Plymouth 12/21/1844.  He was 19 years of age.  In Stearns History of Plymouth his name is listed as Damon.  His wife, Mary, had died just five months previously.  They are buried in the Turnpike Cemetery.

 

BLANCHARD, MARY, the 20-year old wife of Dalton Blanchard, died 7/6/1844.

 

CUMMINGS, ALICE (KIDDER) SPALDING, BLODGETT, the second of three wives of Jonathan Cummings, died 3/27/1844 at the age of 59. Her first two husbands predeceased her; Jonathan Spalding, with whom she had a son, Asa, and Simeon Blodgett, her second husband.

 

LANE, CHARLES F., 22-year old son of Joseph and Betsey (Smith) Lane, died 3/24/1844.

 

LOVEJOY, NATHAN, died 2/12/1844 at the age of 60.  He was married to Sarah Blackey of Center Harbor and they came to Plymouth in 1805.  They lived in the Lower Intervale area of Plymouth and he constructed the basin holding pure water of the well known as Crystal Springs.  He and his wife were the parents of seven children.  His youngest son, George Washington Lovejoy, was a veteran of the Civil War.

 

STEARNS, JUDITH (TAYLOR), the wife of Aaron Stearns, died 8/13/1844.  They were married 3/22/1792 and were the parents of 10 children, including twins who were born and died in February 1813.

 

(1845)

 

DEARBORN, EDWARD, was born 2/24/1772 and died 12/10/1845.  His first wife was the former Lydia Rogers, the daughter of Enoch Rogers.

 

LANE, NATHAN H., died 4/25/1845 at the age of eighteen.  He was the son of Joseph Lane and Betsey Smith, and the brother of Charles F. Lane, who died in 1844.

 

MELVIN, NATHANIEL UPHAM, THE SON OF Nathaniel Peabody Melvin and Sarah Rowe, died at the age of ten on 5/7/1845.

 

PAGE, BETSEY A., daughter of David and Hannah Page, died 9/13/1845 at the age of four years.

 

 (1846)

 

BARNARD, TAMZIN (JONES), the widow of Currier Barnard, died in 1846.  She was the mother of seven children.  The entire family are buried in the cemetery near Ireland Lumberyard.

 

BLODGETT, EUNICE, unmarried daughter of Joseph Snow Blodgett and Eunice French, died at the age of 46 on 12/22/1846.  Stearns History of Plymouth lists the year of her death as 1841.  She is buried in Turnpike Cemetery.

 

DEARBORN, GEORGE A., the son of John and Mary Dearborn, died 3/11/1846 at the age of twenty.  He is buried in the Cookville Cemetery.

 

MORSE, ALVIN THORNTON, the son of Stephen Morse and Sarah Chamberlain, died at age 25 on 4/6/1846.  Buried in Turnpike Cemetery.

 

PENNIMAN, BRIDGET (BLODGETT), the widow of Nathan Penniman, died 2/12/1846.  She was 73.  She was the daughter of Captain James Blodgett.

 

WELLS, ELIZABETH (EDSON), the first wife of Henry Wells, died 1/6/1846.

 

(1847)

 

MORSE, SARAH (WEBSTER), the wife of Samuel Morse, died at age 84 on 11/17/1847.  She was the daughter of Abel Webster and she was the mother of 11 children.

 

(1848)

 

BAYLEY, MIRIAM S., the daughter of Henry Bayley and his second wife, Nancy Barnard, died 6/29/1848 at the age of 15.

 

BLODGETT, ABIEL, died 3/25/1848.  He was 87 years old, and the widower of Margaret Heath, whom he married in 1788, when she was 19 years old.  They were the parents of 11 children.

 

CURRIER, DANIEL, died 6/11/1848 at the age of 82.  He was born in Concord in 1766, the son of William.  He married Mary Smith of Bow in 1784.  He came to Plymouth in 1795 and became a prosperous farmer on Lower Intervale.  His wife died in 1832 and he married his second wife, Joanna Pillsbury.  He had seven children with Mary Smith.  He is buried in Lower Intervale Cemetery.

 

MORSE, SAMUEL, the son of Stephen Morse, died 3/8/1848.  He was just two years shy of his 100th birthday.  He was born in Chester on 7/30/1750.  He was in Colonel James Reed’s regiment and the siege of Boston and the battle of Bunker Hill in 1775.  In 1776 he was in Captain Runnel’s company to reinforce George Washington’s army in New York.  In 1778 he was living in Plymouth and was in Colonel Timothy Bedel’s regiment during the expedition against Canada.  He lived in West Plymouth and was married to Sarah Webster, the daughter of Abel Webster.  She predeceased him by only four months.  They were the parents of 11 children, born in Plymouth.

 

MORSE, WILLIAM GEORGE, son of Stephen Morse and Sarah Chamberlain, died 10/1/1848 at the age of 26 years.  He is buried in the Turnpike Cemetery.

 

SPALDING, ASA, the son of Jonathan Spalding and Alice Kidder, and the stepson of Simeon Blodgett, died 8/5/1848.  He was 29 years old.

 

(1849)

 

CASS, CHANDLER, died 11/3/1849.  He was 84 years old.  He and his wife, Dorothy (Dyer) Cass, are buried in the Lower Intervale Cemetery.

 

CUMMINGS, JONATHAN, died at age 75 on 4/15/1849. He was the son of Captain Jotham Cummings and ewas born in Plymouth 2/16/1774.  He was a farmer and a surveyor.  He served as a Selectman in 1815 and was a Justice of the Peace from 1824 until his death.  He was a fife major in the militia.  His first wife was Ruth George, who died in 1833.  In 1834 he married Alice Blodgett, the widow of Simeon Blodgett.  She died in 1844, and his third wife was Sophronia Durrell, whom he married in 1845.  She survived him.  He was the father of 10 children, all of them from his first marriage.

 

MORRILL, SARAH W., oldest daughter of Thomas E. and Mary Morrill, died at age 29 on 8/10/1849. 

 

PENNIMAN, ADNA, the unmarried son of Nathan Penniman and Bridget Blodgett, died 12/31/1894.  He was 42 years old and unmarried.  Buried in Turnpike Cemetery.

 

WELLS, SYRENA A., infant daughter of John Moor Wells and Harriet Lane, died at the age of seven months on 12/20/1849.  She is buried in the Ellis-Dearborn Cemetery on Reservoir Road.

 

WHEELER, JONATHAN BROOKS, the son of Daniel C. Wheeler and Melinda, his wife, died on 11/23/1894 at the tender age of just four months.
