1820 TO 1829 OBITUARIES

  (1820)

 

REED, JOSEPH, the son of Joseph Reed and Ruth Underwood, died 7/23/1820 at the age of 74.  He came to Plymouth in 1773 from Westford, Massachusetts, and settled in Lower Intervale, where he farmed.  In 1783 he was a Selectman and an ensign in the militia.  He and his wife, Martha Fletcher were the parents of nine children, all of whom lived to maturity.

 

REED, JOSEPH, the grandson of the Joseph Reed listed above, and the son of Joseph Reed and Susan Cummings, died on 10/20/1820.  He was born 5/16/1819.

 

SENTER, EDWARD, died 2/16/1820 at the age of 68.  One other account gives the date of his death as 1829.

 

(1822)

 

BARNARD, CURRIER, died sometime in 1822.  His widow was the former Tamzin Jones of South Hampton and they were te parents of seven children. 

 

(1823)

 

BARTLETT, STEPHEN, the father of Sargent and Stephen Bartlett, died 5/22/1823.  He was the son of John Bartlett and came to Plymouth in 1778, and he was married twice.  His farm was on the hill road to Hebron.  He was the father of seven children.

 

 

DEARBORN, SARAH (GILMAN), known as Sally.  She was the wife of Benjamin Dearborn and she died 10/5/1823 at the age of 50.  She was the mother of his five children.

 

DEARBORN, MARTIN R., a son of Benjamin Dearborn and Sarah Gilman, died 12/10/1823 at the age of sixteen.

 

(1824)

 

COLE, JACOB, died 8/22/1824.  He was the son of Abraham and Sarah Cole.  He was married to Betsey Spencer on 1/25/1823.  He and an infant daughter are buried in the Spencer Cemetery on Tenney Mountain Highway.

 

MELVIN, ENOCH, died 10/27/1824.  He was the son-in-law of Joseph Reed and the son of Captain Ebenezer Melvin of Hollis.  He was taxed in Plymouth from 1793 to 1804.  In 1805 he moved to Bridgewater.  He was a major in the militia.  He and his wife, Mary Reed, were the parents of five children.

 

(1825)

 

DEARBORN, LYDIA (ROGERS), the daughter of Enoch Rogers and the first wife of Edward Dearborn, died 8/19/1825.

 

GOOLD, JANE (HARRIMAN), who was married to Benjamin Goold, died 10/8/1825.She is buried in the Hunt Cemetery on Fairgrounds Road.

 

(1826)

 

MELVIN, LETITIA, seventeen month old daughter of Walter Melvin, died 2/16/1826.  She was the third of eight children born to Walter and Dorothy (Phillips) Melvin.

 

BLODGETT, NANCY (PENNIMAN), first wife of Rev. Ebenezer Blodgett, died at age 45 on 2/16/1826.  She was the mother of his first three children and is buried in the Turnpike Cemetery.

 

(1927)

 

BLODGETT, MARY A., daughter of Eunice French and Joseph Snow Blodgett, died 1/1/1827 at the age of 16.  She is buried in the Turnpike Cemetery.

 

(1829)

 

BARTLETT, STEPHEN, the brother of Sargent Bartlett, died 1/10/1829 at the age of 42.  He was the son of Stephen Bartlett and was born 6/16/1786 in Plymouth.  He was a farmer in Plymouth and later in Bridgewater.  He and his wife, Mary Ramsay, were the parents of two children.

 

BLODGETT, SIMEON, died 1/15/1829. He was the son of James Blodgett and Deborah Blanchard.  He was 54 years old when he died.

 

CHAMBERLAIN, LIEUT.EPHRAIM, the son of Lt. Ebenezer Chamberlain, served in the American Revolution in 1776 with his father.  He was in Colonel Bedel’s regiment and was in Captain Chase Taylor’s company at Bennington in 1777.  He  came to Plymouth in 1824 and died here on 12/14/1829.  In 1783 he was married to Mehitable Bean.

 

CUMMINGS, ANNA (BROWN), the wife of Captain Jonathan Cummings, died 11/8/1829 at the age of 85.
